Abstract

The Passamaquoddy tribe was awarded $40.5 million in 1980 to settle its land-claim case, but Cliv Dore, elected in 1994 to a four-year term as tribal governor, says the tribe is broke. Members of the Wabanaki Youth Council on April 3 occupied the tribal administration building for three days to protest the government's borrowing $1.2 million dedicated for a new youth center. Tribal members on May 19 will decide whether to recall Dore from office. Details.
