Abstract

Organizers of lobster boat races in Maine must make sure that their events comply with the National Historic Preservation Act, the Federal Water Pollution Act, the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, the Coastal Zone Management Act, the Noise Control Act, the Clean Air Act, the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act. The U.S. Coast Guard has identified seven marine events in Maine that will require environmental impact scrutiny. Doug Johnson, an organizer of the Stonington Lobster Boat Race, questions the need for government oversight of his event.
