Abstract

The International Appalachian Trail on Friday announced that it has signed an agreement with Wendell Pierce, who with his son owns 2,000 acres of Mars Hill. The agreement covers nearly six miles of trail, and is the first negotiated between the IAT and a private landowner. Mars Hill, at 1,800 feet, is reputed to be the first place in North America to receive the morning sun several times each year.
