Abstract

Maine recorded four days during the summer of 1995 when ozone exceeded the federal standard of 120 parts per billion, for a total of 20 hours in non-attainment of federal clean air standards. The highest ozone reading in Maine this summer came August 1 in Phippsburg. Maine issues warnings using an 80 ppb standard, stricter than the federal standard. Using the Maine standard, the state experienced unhealthful ozone for 591 hours over 27 days. Details.
