Abstract

The Legislature's Taxation Committee has endorsed changes in alternative assessment programs that were designed to trade lower taxes for public benefits but had frequently been used by landowners as a way to avoid property taxes. The result should be more tax revenues to coastal towns next year as fewer landowners qualify for the highest assessment discounts.
