The U.S. Forest Service last week released partial results of its wood inventory
The U.S. Forest Service last week released partial results of its wood inventory of control lots in Penobscot and Washington counties. The provisional list doesn't allow any firm conclusions to be made, and forest activists and commercial foresters disagree on what the preliminary numbers show. Commercial foresters say the inventory results point to some encouraging trends, with the spruce-fir problem having diminished significantly. Maine Forest Service Chief Charles Gadzik says a definitive look at the new forest inventories is not likely to emerge for some time. Details.
