Abstract

State aid for adult education will be cut 9.1 percent in 1995-96, or $365,000, with another $375,000 to be cut in 1996-97. The cuts came after the King administration turned adult education into job training, and the cuts are unrelated to budget-cutting efforts by the state Productivity Realization Task Force. The state awards around 3,000 general equivalency degrees and 800 high school diplomas through 133 adult education programs, and most programs do not charge fees for GEDs or high school diplomas.
