Abstract
The Union of Concerned Scientists, concerned about the record of the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission, forwarded an anonymous letter detailing improprieties at the Maine Yankee nuclear power plant in Wiscasset to State Nuclear Safety Advisor Uldis Vanags. Vanags says that public safety is an issue at the facility, but that he has confidence in the NRC. The NRC is investigating the matter, and is expected to make its report public in a few weeks.
