The Lewiston Sun-Journal and The Bangor Daily News have both made staff reductio
The Lewiston Sun-Journal and The Bangor Daily News have both made staff reductions recently, and The Portland Newspapers plans to follow suit. Publishers say increases in the cost of newsprint and poor local economies are behind the layoffs. The Bangor Daily News has suffered from decreased advertising revenues, due to the closing of Loring Air Force Base, the coming of Wal-Mart and the loss of Canadian shoppers in northern Maine. David Morse of Courier Publications believes the downsizing is a precautionary move for the coming years. Details.
