Abstract

Trustees of the University of Maine System in December announced a mandate to cut spending by two percent each of the next two years. The University of Southern Maine plans to phase out its farming at Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport and Brunswick in 1997, and will turn the operation over to the American Farmland Trust. USM officials last month said the farm was nearly self-sufficient, but a budget statement showed the university was left to cover a shortfall of more than $130,000 in fiscal 1994-95. Details.
