Abstract

Robert S. McCarthy, 41, of New Limerick, was killed February 3 after his snowmobile crashed into an ice shack on Nickerson Lake in Aroostook County. McCarthy's blood-alcohol level was 0.31, and investigators determined his sled hit the ice shack at nearly 100 mph. Carol Blake, McCarthy's sister, put forward proposed legislation that would require reflectors on ice fishing shacks. Some observers think common sense, combined with no alcohol and less speed, would solve the problem. Details.
