Abstract

Nearly one-third of the seats in the Maine Senate are open, and most candidates filing by the March 15 deadline have previous legislative experience. Some 30 members of the Maine House face the statutory four-term limit, as opposed to only four of the Senate's 35 members. There are three open Senate seats due to incumbents seeking higher office, and four by voluntary retirement. Democrats and Republicans have filed record numbers of candidates for House seats, with only four Democrats and three Republicans running unopposed. Details.
