Abstract

Maine Coast Artists of Rockport imposed a $15 entry fee for its annual juried show, and it appears to have resulted in a substantial reduction in the number of artists seeking to enter the show. John Chandler of MCA says neither the fee nor the opposition of the Union of Maine Visual Artists had an adverse impact on the quality of the work submitted. Some 400 artists submitted work for the annual exhibition, down from 600 last year. Artist Carlo Pittore of Bowdoinham, a former president of UMVA opposed to entry fees, was shocked that 400 artists submitted work. Details.
