Abstract

The Maine Audubon Society has sent out a letter to its members urging them to vote against the November referendum to ban clear-cutting. Some MAS members say the letter was premature, and has come while significant questions remain about a compromise agreement worked out between major environmental groups and the paper industry. MAS Executive Director Thomas Urquhart supported the organization's stand, saying that the compromise agreement contains specific provisions.
