Abstract

The Family Planning Association of Maine recently announced that the teen pregnancy rate in Maine continues to decline, and the state has the third lowest rate among the 50 states. Maine's teen pregnancy rate for 1994 was 50.2 per 1,000 teenage girls, compared to a national rate of 58.9 per 1,000 teenage girls. Lewiston, which has no condom program in its high school, had a rate of 105 pregnancies per 1,000 teenage girls. Mount Desert Island High School has 575 students, condom machines in the boys' and girls' restrooms, and had no pregnancies over the last two years. Details.
