Abstract

The Agricultural Council of Maine is seeking to restore state inspection of meat facilities, claiming that federal inspection programs work well with large operations but does a poor job when it comes to small producers of such animals as deer, rabbit and game birds. Maine allowed the U.S. Department of Agriculture to assume meat inspection duties in 1980.
