Abstract

Profile of state representative John Martin, D-Eagle Lake, a member of the Maine House for 30 years and speaker for nearly 20 years. A ballot scandal involving Martin's chief aide led to widespread antipathy for Martin, who was clearly the target of supporters of term limits. Martin is running a write-in campaign, and is the only term-limited candidate still running. If his campaign is successful, the Maine House would have to vote on whether to seat him, and a court challenge is likely to follow.
