Abstract

School Administrative District 15 is proposing to use Perry Hayden, the former hospital at the Pineland Center, as a new elementary school. Legislation submitted last year allows the district to have first refusal on Hayden and its 30-acre site. Perry Hayden was constructed in 1961 as a 40-bed hospital. If the district does not claim it by January 15 it goes back on the block with the rest of the campus. Portland architect Stephen Blatt, who previously transformed one of Limestone's elementary schools into a dormitory for the math and science magnet school, drafted the plan for renovating Perry Hayden.
