During the 1980s, around 90 percent of boys in the United States were circumcised, but by last year it had dropped to 60 percent. Circumcisions in Maine seem to have rised slightly, from 64 percent in 1985 to 69 percent last year. An increasing number of Maine physicians are speaking out against circumcision, and some refuse to perform the procedure.
