Abstract

Driven almost to extinction along the Eastern Seaboard during the 1950s and 1960s, the rebound of the osprey population after the banning of DDT in 1972 is one of the success stories of wildlife management. Osprey have come back in such numbers that they are even considered nuisances in some areas, particularly because of their preference for using utility poles as nesting sites.
