Abstract

Sally Morrison, a midwife, attended the home birth of Lauren Bouyea in a small apartment in Bath. Emergency medical technicians had to be called after Bouyea's heart rate dropped below 50. The state charged Morrison with criminal recklessness, alleging that she attempted to apply two homeopathic remedies while EMTs were administering oxygen. Morrison waived her right to a jury trial, and testimony was heard last week in Sagadahoc County Superior Court over a two-day period. Details.
