Abstract
Details on Friday's public hearings before the Maine Legislature's Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee, which is considering two bills addressing endangered species. L.D. 580 would eliminate the Legislature's new authority to approve or reject new endangered species listings, while L.D. 789 is a list of 20 peoposed endangered species. Supporters of L.D. 580 say it is wrong to subject the listing of endangered species to the whims of politics. Sportsmen in the state are opposed to L.D. 789, claiming the list is too long and not well thought out.
