Abstract

The Maine Land Use Regulation Commission last week voted 5-1 in favor of adopting a revision of the LURC comprehensive land use plan. The vote was a victory for the forest industry, which had lobbied against creating special natural character zones. Environmental groups, realizing that the vote would go against them, last month backed proposed legislation that would ban development on 4.5 million acres of the unorganized territories. Details.
