Abstract

The Maine Consortium for Psychotherapy was organized three years ago in response to the emergence of managed care. The consortium and the American Mental Health Alliances of Maine and New Hampshire this month held a workshop to address concerns about the impact of managed care on psychotherapy. Therapists say managed care is hurting patients by limiting choice and curtailing benefits. Managed care requires therapists to regularly justify clients' need for treatment, and usually covers only eight to 12 sessions annually. Details.
