Abstract
The Maine Legislature's Utilities Committee is considering L.D. 976, which would prohibit the release of transcripts of 911 calls except to law enforcement agencies. The bill's objectives include increasing membership in the state's E-911 Council; providing limited legal immunity; prohibiting repeated dialing or abuse of the system; and creating new standards of confidentiality. The Maine Press Association and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association testified against the bill.
