Abstract

Details on last week's public hearing befoe the Maine Legislature's Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee, which is considering a measure that would protect from development 4.5 million acres of timberland. L.D. 1198 was opposed by the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission, Gov. King, the forest products industry, property rights activists and others. Another measure, L.D. 1175, would end a law that allows unregulated subdivisions of parcels of more than 40 acres.
