Abstract
Judy Berg of the Small Woodland Owners of Maine says that illicit dumping is a frequent topic of discussion for woodlot owners. Some of the appliances that are illegally dumped contain ozone-depleting chloroflourocarbons. Federal law says that removing CFCs is the responsibility of the last person who owns an appliance before it is trashed. Some Maine municipalities remove CFCs from trashed appliances, while others require that residents remove the CFCs before they bring an appliance to a landfill or transfer station. Details.
