Abstract

The little-known citizens' advisory committee to the Baxter State Park Authority will take on two controversial matters at its July public meeting: new land use around the West Branch of the Penobscot River, and the makeup of the 27-year-old advisory committee itself, which some say has become an old-boy patronage network. Even though the park is in northern Maine, 14 of the 16 advisory committee members are from the southern half of the state, and despite the "emeritus" label some hold, few members ever really leave.
