Abstract
"Maine Perspectives" piece on the state gay rights bill, which was finally signed into law after 18 years of legislative attempts. Political infighting and blundering hampered similar bills from 1979 to 1993. Although the opposition had become more circumspect about its rhetoric, gay Mainers continued to be discriminated against in employment, housing, and loans.
