Abstract

A 1990 Maine Audubon report estimated that close to 50 tons of herbicides were used to clear rights of way in Maine, with between 25,000 and 55,000 acres of Maine land being chemically treated. According to Maine Board of Pesticides Control director Robert Batteese, no Maine environmental organization is currently maintaining a current interest in herbicide use or actively opposing the spraying.
