Abstract

Maine's new statewide E-911 system will result in the address and telephone number of any caller to the system appearing on a computer screen from where the services will be dispatched. The system involves a statewide changing of addresses and the input of municipalities, the U.S. Postal Service, the state Office of Geographical Information Services and the Emergency Services Comminications Bureau. Less than one-quarter of the 492 organized municipalites preparing for E-911 have completed the process. Lincoln County will probably be the first to operate under enhanced 911. Details.
