Abstract

Nearly 300 dairy farmers from around the country last week went to Washington, D.C., to complain about the low prices they receive for milk. Barry Higgins of Maple Lane Farm in Charleston was one of eight Maine dairy farmers to make the trip. The Maine Milk Commission reports there are 529 diary farms in the state, but 25 are being lost each year. Higgins warns that if prices are not raised to at least cover production expenses more farms will go out of business. Details.
