The University of Maine at Orono and Maine Maritime Academy each established undergraduate programs in marine science in the early 1990s. The program at UMO includes at least two semesters of work at the Darling Marine Center, a 150-acre campus on the Damariscotta River Estuary. Relations between UMO and MMA were strained after the creation of similar programs, but some researchers now envision more cooperation between the two schools. Details.
