Abstract

Residents of Cottage Park and Summer Place, two subdivisions in Portland, have been dealing with seepage of black liquid from their chimneys, and the threat of carbon monoxide gas. The chimneys are designed for wood-buring fireplaces, and were not built according to National Fire Protection Association standards. Residents, who have a consent agreement signed by developer Ric Weinschenk that a new vent will be installed, say their concerns about the new vents were ignored by the Maine Oil and Solid Fuel Board.
