Details on Monday's press conference at the State House in Augusta, during which Jonathan Carter's Forest Ecology Network announced it would work to defeat the proposed Compact for Maine's Forests. Carter said paper companies would win whether the compact succeeded or failed at the polls. Bill Vail of the Maine Forest Products Council noted that the proposed compact was being challenged by two groups with opposing views, with one group saying the compact would do too much while the second group claims it will do too little.
