Abstract

The Baxter State Park Authority this month voted to allow hunting and trapping on a 2,669-acre addition to the park. Park Director Buzz Caverly Jr. said he has been alerted to the possibility of a lobbying effort to relax regulations in the park, and has written the authority requesting support in clarifying the current restrictions on hunting and trapping. The leaders of the successful effort to allow hunting and trapping on the new land said they were unaware of an effort to change the regulations regarding hunting moose. Restore: The Maine Woods is considering a lawsuit to reverse the authority's vote, and wilderness activist Charles FitzGerald said he was also interested in legal action. Details.
