Abstract

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife announced Tim Peabody of Northport will be the new head of the Maine Warden Service. Maj. Dan Tourtelotte, acting head of the service, announced he will retire to take a job with New England Outdoors of Millinocket. The choice of Peabody, a sergeant, bypassed lieutenants in the service. George Smith of the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine said polls showed a decline in the rating of the service among sportsmen. Maine Sunday Telegram writer Roberta Scruggs blamed much of the service's problems on Tourtelotte.
