Abstract

"Maine Perspectives" piece on the sale of the Guy Gannett newspapers and the gradual erosion of the owners' commitment to being a public trust. Rooks says that the genius that resides in the local daily newspaper does not survive corporate takeovers. His suggestion is for Guy Gannett, which controls much of the media in Maine, to sell its newspapers to separate buyers in order to maintain lively competition in the state.
