Abstract

To officials at the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, public ignorance about Maine's water supply is the biggest threat to ground water quality in the state. A poor understanding of the state's groundwater reserve system among both the public and the scientists who study it has led to disagreements about how much of that system is threatened by pollution. At the same time, there are few funds available to prevent new contamination to the water supply. Details, related articles.
