Abstract

Jim Yeager, a board member of the Maine Equine Industry Association, warns horse owners to be careful when planning to sell horses into retirement. Many who do so are told by buyers that their horses will be put out to pasture and be cared for, but they end up in a can of dog food. Gloria Maltz, owner of the Equine Directory in Gorham, agrees. Jeager suggests that owners learn the value of horse meat in the dog food market, and then charge more.
