Abstract

James Betts, campaign manager for Democratic gubernatorial contender Tom Connolly, outlines his strategy to win the Blaine House for his candidate. Betts believes Gov. Angus King's strength, economic growth, is also his weakness, because, by that standard, King is only the governor of York and Cumberland counties, the only two counties that have enjoyed a genuine economic expansion during King's first term in office. Republican candidate James Longley, Jr. will also focus his campaign on the economy insisting that as Maine's 1st District congressman for two years, 1995-1996, he set the stage and can claim the credit for Maine's economic boom.
