In response to the proposed sale of Guy Gannett, a consortium headed by the Newspaper Guild representing the editorial employees of the Portland Newspapers, is going public with their attempt at a buyout. Their bid, which was also a bid to keep the non-broadcast properties of Maine's largest media company locally-owned, came in low. Although Guy Gannett trustees nixed the bid, the guild is not giving up on winning a role in the future of the newspapers, if not actual ownership. Details and related editorial.
