Abstract

A 20-year tradition, the Whatever Race, originally designed to focus attention on the clean-up of the Kennebec River, did not take place this Fourth of July . The strange boats and floats participating in the race have declined in number over the years, after the first huge success in the summer of 1979. The Whatever Festival held in Capitol Park this year did not include any aquatic events.
