Abstract

"Capital Letter" piece on libraries, which are now in competition with large bookstores and personal Internet access. In two years the number of Maine families with a computer has increased from one-third to one-half, and those having Internet access have increased from less than 10 percent to more than 20 percent. Participants in Augusta focus groups report that they want libraries to be places to gather, learn computer literacy, discuss books, and hear lectures.
