Abstract

Originally conceived by Al LaPlante and housed last year at the Mid Coast School of Technology in Rockland, the Opportunities School provides an alternative curriculum for socially and academically alienated high school kids. A cooperative funding system for the school was worked out among School Administrative Districts 50, 40, 28, and 5 in the mid-coast region. The students are treated as individuals and have individualized programs. Maine has about 80 alternative programs in the public school system for at-risk students. With a focus on students Jackie Harrington and Danielle Arnie.
