Abstract

The cancer-fighting drug taxol has been discovered in the needles of the Canadian yew, a species native to Maine. Samples of needles of the Canadian yew from Washington County were found to contain six times the taxol found in the western yew's bark, raising the potential that stands of the tree in Maine could be harvested for the drug.
