Three major conferences were held within the week on school violence: the "Prejudice, Harassment and Hate Violence Among Maine Youth" summit was organized by the Maine Leadership Consortium and held at the University of Maine; the Consortium also sponsored a second summit in Portland; and the Maine Police Chief's Association held one in Sugarloaf. At the end of the UMO summit, schools were asked to commit action plans to paper for empowering students and stopping harassment.
