Abstract

As a $17 million renovation project filled the State House hallways with construction workers, a recent fire alarm alerted State House workers to the fact that there is no official evacuation plan in place for the 200 staffers who work under Legislative Council Executive Director Sally Tubbesing. Capitol Security Director Donald Suitter says he has a draft evacuation plan for the entire state government complex that would satisfy federal inspectors, but he admits the plan has not been formally approved by the Legislature or the governor. Tubbesing, Suitter and legislative staffers also confirmed that many state workers are unfamiliar with the plan.
