Abstract

A mixed review of the performance of Maine Department of Agriculture Commissioner Ed McLaughlin, who will leave his post at the end of 1998 to accept employment in the private sector. McLaughlin is credited with helping to develop the state's cranberry industry in Washington County by working closely with Cherryfield Foods. But he has been criticized for positions he took on issues relating to the DeCoster Egg Farms and on proposed industrial hog farms.
