Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a piece of 1997 legislation that dramatically altered state policy on All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) use. In the last six months, more than 200 miles of roads on public reserved lands have been opened to ATV traffic. Steve Spencer, recreation specialist for the Bureau of Parks and Lands, said except for the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Maine Audubon Society, there was little opposition to the measure, which was introduced by state senator Dick Ruhlin of Brewer.
